August 2008 Newsletter

The Start of our New Playing Year

September sees the start of our new Club year, and we can boast some of the best facilities in the area. Our badminton courts are the envy of most clubs and we have started the renovation of the squash courts, with court 2 having had a major refurbishment. In addition we have the upgraded changing rooms with new showers and flooring, and our new disabled changing room.

New Members

We are always delighted to welcome new members as it’s important for the continued development and success of the Club.  We are again giving you the opportunity of attracting new members with the "Two for One" offer (subject to a small admin fee) with this year’s renewals. Please encourage friends, neighbours, work colleagues to join.

New Ideas

John Hyland, our Development Officer, has been working on getting greater use of the Club and its facilities. From September there will be:

·          Aerobics

·          Circuits

·          Table Tennis for juniors

·          More after school activities with local schools

Sign-up sheets will be displayed in the Club from the middle of August.

Recycling

We all know of the need to recycle at home, and the Club is no different. We have to pay for all waste collection services. You will therefore see bins marked for recycling. Please use these correctly, so that we meet recycling standards, and save on expenditure.

New Leaflet

If you have an opportunity to display these to potential members, copies are available from the office.

Web Site - Volunteer

We reintroduced our web-site for the Club last year, but are finding it difficult to keep up to date. If there is anyone who can take on responsibility for the site, we would really appreciate it.

Training for Badminton Coaching

The Club are keen to offer places to members on the next badminton coaching course in the Autumn. In exchange for the training, members are asked to provide a number of coaching days to the Club. If you are interested, please contact either John Hyland or Zoe.

Table Tennis

John is organising junior table tennis coaching sessions from September, and we are also keen to see the tables used in league matches if we can get the players. So if you want to play, or know anyone else who is keen to play table tennis, contact John or Zoe.

Squash

Four of our juniors have made the grade to the Sussex Junior Squash League. Well done to them and to Paul Butcher our coach. Paul is keen to welcome new juniors to his coaching sessions. Contact Zoe for details.

Premier Club

Apart from the physical changes to the Club, we are working towards “Premier Club” status. This means that we set out to achieve high standards in our dealings with members and the community. John is establishing the means to achieve this and we shall keep you posted on the progress.

Club Entrance

First impressions count! It is an old saying, but very true. We are aware that the entrance to the Club does not do justice to the facilities we have on offer. The aim is to provide a welcoming entrance to the Club which is attractive and eye-catching.

More Improvements

We are trying to make things better still. The next target is the lounge. We have some improved chairs and we hope to get new carpet and tables by the start of the season. We will then start on the kitchen. The aim is for new flooring, cooker and worktops.

Sales

All the changes mean that we have a number of items for disposal. These include the wooden chairs that used to be in the bar, a metal framed desk and some kitchen equipment, including glassware. Look out for notices in the Club announcing items for sale.

Open Day

One way to boost our membership would be to hold an Open Day. We are considering this for a weekend in late September. Look out for more details closer to the date. We always appreciate help from other members on such occasions.
